Veena Mankar, Founder & Chairperson of the Board
Ms. Veena Mankar has over 4 decades of experience in financial services, with banks, non-banking financial institutions and as a strategy consultant. Ms. Mankar has worked in India and Dubai. Her expertise has been in trade and structured finance, including factoring and forfaiting, finance for SME’s and microfinance.
Ms. Mankar started her corporate career with ICICI Limited (the project finance institution and pre-cursor to ICICI Bank Limited) and during the course of her career has worked with leading international and Indian financial institutions. These include Emirates Bank, Dubai, Banque Indo Suez Aval, UK, West LB Germany, Standard Bank of South Africa and FIMBank Malta.
She serves as an Independent Director on the Boards of Liberty Videocon General Insurance Company Limited and IDFC Bank Limited. In the past she has been on the Boards of Factoring entities in India, Dubai and Egypt and on the Governing Board of Sa-Dhan.
Ms. Mankar has a BA in Economics from Lady Shree Ram College, Delhi University, followed by a post-graduation in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (1973-75). She has travelled extensively and been a trainer and speaker at several national and international forums.
She lives and works in Mumbai, has three children and five grandchildren. She hopes her work through Swadhaar will contribute to a better and more equitable world for the children and grand-children of her generation.
Anal Jain, Independent Director
Mr. Anal Jain has over 40 years of experience in the IT industry. He was Head of Sales and Marketing at Wipro during its early years when it grew into one of India's largest IT companies. He then set up and headed IBM's India business as President. Later he started and headed Sun Microsystems as CEO and Managing Director, India and South Asia. Among other companies he has been responsible for heading other leading companies such as BirlaSoft and NetApp India. He continues to mentor several IT companies through Nasscom, TIE, and his alma mater IIT Kharagpur.
Mr. Jain has been active in the field of Microfinance for over 4 years. He has been an Advisor to Sa-Dhan, the National Microfinance industry association. He was formerly Co-Founder and Managing Director of MicroVentures India, a Private Equity fund focused on the Indian Microfinance Industry. He also serves on the Boards of various Microfinance Institutions as an independent Director – Sonata Finance, Sanghamithra Rural Financial Services, Mimo Finance and Grameen Financial Services.
Mr. Jain holds a bachelor's degree, B.Tech-Hons (Electrical Engineering) from IIT Kharagpur, and a master's degree, M.S (Electrical Engineering) from Brooklyn Poly, New York City, USA.
Valerie Kindt, Nominee Director – ACCION International
Ms. Valérie Kindt joined ACCION International (ACCION) in 2000. Ms. Kindt currently heads Global Training and Capacity Building at ACCION and plays a strategic advisory role to Accion's India management team. Previously Ms. Kindt provided technical assistance to ACCION's partners in Africa, the Middle East, India and China. Her areas of expertise include microfinance start-ups, product development, capacity-based lending, and human capital. Before joining ACCION, Ms. Kindt worked for five years as a microfinance consultant in Uzbekistan, Albania, Lebanon and Egypt for the World Bank, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Catholic Relief Services and the Soros Foundation. She also was an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) for three years and currently teaches a course on operational challenges in microfinance institutions at the Boulder Institute of Microfinance.
Ms. Kindt holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Sussex (U.K.) and a master's degree in Arab studies and economic development from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.
Abhishek Agrawal, Nominee Director – ACCION International
Mr. Abhishek Agrawal joined Accion in July 2009 and is currently heading Accion in India as Country Director; he is nominated as Director on Swadhaar Board effective June'2014. Abhishek had been seconded to Swadhaar as CFO from 2010 – 2013; where he lead the business, diversified the funding and supported the growth of the company. Prior to joining the Swadhaar team, he was seconded by Accion to YES Bank for microfinance division YES Sampann for spinning the business as NBFC.
Mr. Agrawal comes with extensive experience in financial management, microfinance operations & risk management. Before joining Accion, he worked for nearly 5 years with FINCA International, a global network of microfinance institutions (MFIs). He assumed the role of Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in various FINCA affiliated MFIs, including in Afghanistan, Congo and Jordan, with two of them being startup operations. In his last assignment with FINCA, he was part of SWOT team at headquarters in Washington DC. In Congo and Afghanistan he was part of the team leading the transformation of the organization from an NGO to a commercial deposit collecting institution.
Prior to working with FINCA, Mr. Agrawal acted as advisor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI), where he worked on a number of projects on Urban Reforms & Development for the Government of India. He is a Chartered Accountant and did his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in finance at Rai International University.
Rajeev Ahuja, Nominee Director, RBL Bank Limited (formerly Ratnakar Bank Ltd.)
Rajeev Ahuja holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi and a Masters in Business Administration from IIM, Ahmedabad. He brings over 30 years of experience in investment banking and financial markets in India, Singapore and Hong Kong.
In his current role as Head - Strategy at RBL Bank, he is responsible for raising capital, overseeing the development of new businesses, partnerships, and investor relations.
Prior to joining RBL Bank, Ahuja was with Citibank, India, where he was heading the Investor Sales business in South Asia. His role entailed working with India-centric institutional investors, both domestic and foreign, for derivatives, structured products, loans and bonds. During his stint with Citibank, Mr. Ahuja also established Citi's Fixed Income Capital Markets business with a broad product platform across INR and G3 bonds/loans, structured debt, mezzanine capital. The business grew into a leading fixed income franchise in India in terms of revenue, independent league tables and had several firsts in terms of new transaction types. The franchise had been awarded 'Best India Debt House' by Euromoney and Asset Finance. Ahuja has also had a 10 year stint in capital markets and investment banking divisions of Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank in Singapore and Hong Kong. He also had an advisory role with a venture capital fund focused on early-stage India-centric IT opportunities.
Harjeet Toor, Nominee Director, RBL Bank Limited (formerly Ratnakar Bank Ltd.)
Harjeet is an entrepreneurial business leader with over 24 years of work experience, 22 of which have been in Consumer Banking across NBFC’s and Banks spanning Fullerton India Credit Company Ltd. (FICCL), RBS, ABN AMRO Bank and Bank of America. He has worked in leadership roles across varied functions in Marketing, Product Management, Sales & Distribution, Branch Banking and Finance. An Engineer and a management graduate from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, Harjeet has built diverse market and client segment expertise across the country with an experience mix of both strategic thinking and frontline execution delivering market share and profit growth for the organization.
In his current role at RBL Bank as Business Head for Cards, Financial Inclusion, Retail & MSME Lending, his core responsibility is to establish a robust client acquisition engine for the bank while building a stable and profitable asset portfolios with predictable and attractive returns. He would be responsible for building a franchise that caters to the financial needs of both the business and individual customer segments across varied segments including financial inclusion. His portfolio includes Business Loans, Mortgage backed Loans, Personal Loans, Home Loans, Working Capital Loans, Credit Cards and Mircofinance.
